Powder stick packs for pharmaceuticals: Unither
Powder stick packs : Overview
Unither is a pioneer in powder stick pack technology, with several products developed and several pending marketing authorization for the European market. This portable new dosage form is an excellent alternative to conventional high strength tablets and to rectangular powder sachets. It also helps patients’ compliance with effervescent or ready-to-use orodispersible (dissolving in the mouth) tablets or powders. Through its Gannat site, Unither can manage the full development of powder stick packs from initial concept to the marketing stage, providing the benefit of extensive development expertise.
Advantages of powder stick packs
One of the major advantages of powder stick packs over conventional tablets is that it is easier for the patient to take the medication, especially if they have difficulty swallowing. The powder flows rapidly out of the pack into a glass of water to make an effervescent or still solution or suspension, or can be put directly into the mouth as an orodispersible powder.
A powder stick pack is a useful alternative to liquid dosage forms when the active ingredient is not stable in a liquid medium. The dry form can avoid chemical preservatives that are sometimes needed in liquid forms.
Powder unit-doses are handy, robust, easy to carry and to use individually, and are thus well suited to modern, active lifestyles.
Powder stick technology is also ideal for products that contain a high quantity of active pharmaceutical ingredient and cannot be delivered in a tablet form, as the tablet would be too large to swallow. Powder stick packs are often used in over-the-counter products for coughs and colds, analgesic treatments, or in food supplements.
We currently run powder stick pack batches in France. The site is fully inspected and accredited by the relevant European Authorities, enabling the products to be sold on the European market.
Our teams undertake tech-transfer of products developed by our customers or third parties. They also undertake full development of powder stick technology on a custom basis. Thanks to our highly trained on-site dedicated R&D teams with dedicated pilot plants, we have the know-how, equipment and expertise to manage powder stick product development from the earliest stages.
