As a Blow Fill Seal (BFS) Technician, you will be responsible for the machine maintenance and ancillary equipment as well as understanding the process capabilities. Perform full maintenance down to component level: disassemble, debug, repair, reassemble, set up BFS machine parameters and ensure the maximum possible product quality and minimal downtime. Position reports to the Manager - Production Maintenance.
The Role
  • Evaluate processes, tooling, and materials utilized to manufacture BFS medical components.
  • Provide technical expertise to the manufacturing personnel in the areas of troubleshooting machine issues, processing parameters and process improvements.
  • Solve all equipment, tooling, process, and material issues as necessary.
  • Develop product specifications, process sheets, water diagrams, protocols, EOs, and other documents related to the molding/manufacturing processes as required.
  • Train personnel in inspecting, testing, identifying failures, servicing, troubleshooting and repairing BFS machines and ancillary equipment.
  • Prepare and log BFS Maintenance Reports promptly upon completion of repair tasks and gather and fill in information on forms and reports as required by the function.
  • Perform equipment/tooling changeovers as required.
  • Complete manufacturing paperwork including set-up sheets, steam and sterile reports, shop assembly sequence reports.
  • Provide sample documentation, review results, and issue setup specifications.
  • Ensure products are produced to specifications; write operating procedure changes as needed.
  • Participate or lead projects as assigned by management.
The Candidate
  • Minimum of five (5) years assembly, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and process experience, preferably in a high volume BFS, medical device or pharmaceutical industry environment
  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Science or the equivalent in practical experience and specialized training. Additional qualifying background may be substituted for the required education.
  • Ability to use a computer to maintain records, prepare correspondence and for communication purposes (i.e. Internet)
  • Comprehensive electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic knowledge required.
  • Advanced electronic knowledge and skills to include the use of typical instrumentation, tools and equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read installation, dimension and troubleshooting drawings plus hydraulic, pneumatic, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics.
  • PC/ PLC systems knowledge and interface skills.
  • Well-developed time management skills and personal discipline.
  • Comfortable with handling multiple projects and assignments with strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of plastic processing equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of plastic materials, additives, and dyes
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing methods and production planning
  • Maintain an awareness of and appreciation for the wide variety of cultures and economic systems present within the organization
  • Work effectively in a team based environment.
