Unither shares its CSR Roadmap 2030 with customers

Leadership-driven commitments for sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing

Last week, Unither hosted its first CSR client webinar, held in French and now available in replay with English subtitles.
This inaugural session brought together Unither’s leadership team and pharmaceutical partners to share the Group’s CSR roadmap toward 2030 and the concrete actions already implemented across its operations.

The webinar featured contributions from Eric Goupil, Chairman and CEO, Eric Chesnel, Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer, as well as CSR and sustainability experts from the Group. It was attended by customers and partners seeking greater visibility on regulatory readiness, environmental performance, and long-term sustainability strategies.

A strong message from Unither’s leadership

In his opening remarks, Eric Goupil emphasized that CSR at Unither is not driven solely by regulation, but by conviction and responsibility. While upcoming frameworks such as CSRD and PPWR create new obligations, Unither’s approach is rooted in a broader responsibility toward patients, customers, employees, and the environment.

Eric Chesnel highlighted the business and partnership dimension of CSR, stressing that sustainability is increasingly a decisive criterion in customer decision-making, particularly in hospital tenders and long-term supply agreements. He underlined the importance of co-construction with clients, especially when it comes to material choices, formats, logistics, and life-cycle trade-offs.

Why CSR matters for pharmaceutical projects today

For pharmaceutical companies, CSR is now directly linked to:

  • Regulatory compliance (CSRD, duty of vigilance, PPWR, PFAS-related restrictions)
  • Hospital tenders, where environmental criteria will become mandatory from 2026
  • Customer expectations for transparency, traceability, and life-cycle data
  • Risk management and competitiveness across the value chain

As a global manufacturer of sterile unit doses and injectable solutions, Unither has a responsibility to measure, reduce, and continuously improve the environmental and societal impact of its activities—while maintaining industrial robustness and supply reliability.

A CSR strategy built around four pillars

Unither’s CSR roadmap is structured around four complementary pillars, designed to support customers throughout the product life cycle.

Solutions
CSR is integrated from the earliest stages of development. Environmental and societal indicators are embedded in R&D and proof-of-concept phases, guiding development and launch decisions. Unither is also developing environmental product passports and advancing a structured 3R roadmap (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), including validated recycled plastic initiatives.

Plants
Industrial actions focus on reducing environmental impact at scale, including greenhouse gas reduction aligned with a science-based trajectory, deployment of ISO 50001, a target of 100% green electricity by January 2026, optimization of water use, and expanded recycling of clean production materials such as BFS trimming.

People
Unither places strong emphasis on health and safety, reinforced HSE governance, accident reduction, and continuous improvement. Skills development and training are also key priorities, supporting long-term operational excellence.

Community
The Group strengthens responsible partnerships through responsible purchasing policies, integration of CSR criteria in supplier evaluation, and increased transparency with customers. Unither also aims to better document and communicate the societal value of its healthcare solutions.

Euroject®: eco-design in practice

The webinar also highlighted Euroject®, Unither’s BFS-based unit-dose solution for injectables, as a concrete example of eco-design. Euroject® combines a recyclable mono-material design, reduced breakage risk compared to glass, elimination of certain energy-intensive steps, and lower material weight—contributing to reduced transport and environmental impact. Life-cycle assessments are underway to further support customer reporting needs.

Supporting customers beyond compliance

Unither’s CSR roadmap is designed not only to ensure compliance, but to actively support customers in:

  • Preparing for future regulatory and tender requirements
  • Accessing reliable, usable sustainability data
  • Making informed trade-offs between performance, cost, and environmental impact
  • Building resilient, long-term partnerships

Looking ahead

With its CSR roadmap validated at Group level, 2026 will mark the acceleration and deployment phase across all Unither sites. The Group remains committed to acting as a trusted, long-term partner, combining pharmaceutical excellence with measurable and pragmatic sustainability.
